Social justice, woke politics, intersectionality, patriarchy, white privilege and diversity. Identity Politics and its underlying philosophy, Critical Theory, have created a lot of buzzwords and debate lately.
Identity politics defines peoples’ identities according to the groups they occupy—whether those groups are based on gender, race, class, religion, sexual orientation, or something else—and it addresses all political arrangements through that lens. Researchers are noticing how it functions like a religion. Evangelical Christians are not only susceptible to identity politics from the left, but also from the right. How can the church maintain a biblically faithful witness in a culture of increasing hostility and polarization?
