FROM BITTER DESPAIR TO HOPE IN CHRIST
The official name was Hill 937, a mountain ridge in the Ashaw Valley. The North Vietnamese occupied the top, the Americans wanted them off. It was a battle for attrition and as the number of casualties mounted it became one of the deadliest battles of the war, leading to its nickname “Hamburger Hill.”
Bill Deadwyler was one of those who fought to stay alive during those 10 days in 1969. Though it was 50 years ago, for decades the memories and guilt haunted him on a daily basis.
“Because of the killing that I had done in the Vietnam War, I thought that I could never be forgiven. I wished that I had died with the others on a jungle hilltop in Vietnam. I woke up on that hilltop every morning for the next 17 years until I received Jesus Christ.
At the moment that I trusted in Jesus as the One and only true God, he forgave my sin. The guilt of killing that I had carried for 17 years was gone. Then Jesus changed my life as I learned to rely and depend on him each day.”
Sunday, October 27th at 6:30 pm you are invited to hear Bill Deadwyler share his testimony of finding peace and forgiveness in Christ. All are welcome, and if you know someone dealing with the effects of war encourage them to come with you.
